It’s the first day of the Power Poppy Christmas Remix!! Hop along with us over the next few days as the team celebrates the old and rings in the new! Be sure to head over to the Power Poppy blog by November 23 to check out the details (and a giveaway!)

Today the team are focusing on the Classics, and my card features the gorgeous and instant classic Poinsettia & Pomegranates digital stamp. Be sure to also check out what all of the other Bloomies and Instant Gardeners have come up with (list at the end of the post).

To create my card, I printed out the main image onto a panel of watercolor cardstock using my Brother Laser printer (it’s a black and white printer). I’m using Bee Paper (it’s cold press) and goes perfectly through a printer. The image size is approximate 5″ x 4″ so perfect for an A2 size card.

I used Daniel Smith watercolors to color the image primarily. I built up layers gradually, adding a light wash at first, then darker to build up contrast, adding in darker reds, a touch of sepia, some pops of white gouache on the poinsettia, and then yellows, oranges and browns on the pomegranates.

I also added more detail with red Copics along the leaf veins and in some of the darker areas, and some Neutral greys to outline the entire image. I love combining other mediums with watercolor to add more details. Usually I add pencil, but the Copics worked perfectly here. To add a pop more contrast in the deepest shadows, I added some Copic multi-liner a la Kathy Racoosin, as well as going back over some of the lines on the pomegranates to really make them pop.

I added some white gouache splatters to simulate snow just for good measure (It is a Christmas Remix after all!) then trimmed it down to A2.

To finish the card, I printed out the sentiment from the set on black cardstock and foiled it with WOW! Pink Fab Foil, before die cutting it with a stitched rectangle die, and popping it up over my image. I added a few Sparkling Clear sequins and mounted the whole panel onto an A2 cardbase.

I hope this has inspired you! Remember this is only the first day of the Christmas Remix! Now hop on over to the other ladies who are going to wow you with their beautiful creations I’m sure!
