Power Poppy‘s Christmas Remix is in full swing, and today the team are focusing on a brand new digital stamp ‘Winter Flora‘. It’s a gorgeous stamp with plenty of open space for coloring, and being a digi you can make it whatever size you like!

For my card, I have colored the image with gouache. I use very little water with gouache (which is an opaque type of watercolor to broadly characterize it), so it works well with dark colored non-watercolor cardstock. I therefore printed out the image (approx 4″ x 5″) in black ink onto dark chocolate brown cardstock.

I then used the gouache to paint the image. It required a LOT of layering to gain the right amount of opacity on the image. This is only the second time I’ve used gouache. I really like the look but I’m used to using watercolor – where I paint from light wash and layer over darker and darker paint. With this medium, there is more of a reverse – start with the darkest and then build towards the top highlight. It does take a little bit of re-programming!

Once I was broadly happy, I went around some of the images with a black Copic multi-liner to sharpen up the outlines. I wish I’d had a slightly lighter pen for this as the black is a little harsh. I also used a gold gel pen to create the tops of the ornaments, and a white gel pen for a few of the highlights. Of course, I had to add lots of snow splatters with white gouache.

I then popped it up on fun foam, and mounted it onto a white notecard.

The sentiment from the set is one my favorite for a holiday card that I’ve ever seen. I just love it. I printed it onto white cardstock at 75% (approx 2.5″) and trimmed it out with a sentiment label die, then popped it up on foam tape.

There are several other Power Poppy Bloomies and Instant Gardeners showcasing their work with this fabulous digi today. I’ve linked to their blogs below. Go check them out and enjoy!

  1. It is a beautiful card! I have not tried gouache yet, but I have loads of acrylics left from my tole painting days. Re: the sentiment – you said you printed it…it looks like gold….your printer did that? How did you get gold?! Or did you foil it?

    1. Hi yes thank you so much – I foiled it with a Minc machine (you can use a laminator) using gold foil after printing it with a laser printer!
