Hi Everyone!

It’s time for a new Paint-A-Flower from Altenew! If you landed here from Virginia’s blog you’re on the right track! If not, you can head on over to the Altenew blog to start from the beginning.

Today’s Paint-A-Flower is the Fashion Monger Dahlia. It’s a fun floral trio, and has almost a double layer of petals. I haven’t heard of this flower previously, and decided to just pick my own colors rather than looking it up in real life! (Definitely recommend it though, its a very pretty flower).

To create my card I did no-line watercoloring using the 36 pan set of Altenew watercolors. The image is stamped on hot press watercolor cardstock in Vanilla Cream ink which is a great pale ink, perfect for no line watercolor.

I did two or three layers, letting them dry in between each layer, adding contrast by darkening the shaded areas like the base of the large petals, the base of the leaves under the. florals and one side of the flower centres. I. also added a few splatters for good measure.

When fully dry, I heat embossed the sentiment directly over the top of the image using Altenew Copper embossing powder. I then trimmed down the panel and popped it up onto a card base with foam tape, finishing with a few clear drops here and there.

  1. The colors are amazing! I am really loving all the cards! They are very inspiring. Nice card!

  2. Beautiful watercoloring the flowers using the yellow and pink peachy shades. Adding the embossed sentiment was a nice idea too. Thanks for sharing.

  3. All right- you convinced me. I went and looked up the actual flower. It seems there are variations of collared dahlia’s that are the colors you chose. This no line and ethereal look is my favorite for watercolor.

  4. Love this so much. There was some dahlias at the store that looked just like this. Was so hard to walk away from them, because they were so surreal!
Wonderful card. Thanks for sharing. 🥰
