Hi Everyone!

The amazing wonderful brilliant talented kind Kathy Racoosin is hosting her 18th Coloring Challenge (can you believe it!!) right now. I have colored along a little or a lot in all but one of them – and so I’m so excited today to be part of Altenew’s collaboration with Kathy to inspire crafters to find joy through coloring – now, more than ever, finding joy in the little things we can do at home is so important.

Kathy is running the challenge until 11/22/2020 and I highly recommend you jump in to participate by coloring something – don’t forget to share it on social media using the hashtag #thedailymarker30day. The Coloring Challenge is a good excuse to find some YOU time. Kathy’s blog has all the info on the challenge.

Altenew and Kathy have a blog hop today to inspire you to get coloring. You can start over at the Altenew Blog if you didn’t land here from Maryam’s blog, or stay tuned for the full hop list below and the next stop on the hop, as well as details on a GIVEAWAY!!

For my coloring, I’m using Altenew’s Woodless Watercolor Pencils – these are wonderful for adding detail as well as well getting great contrast in stamped images. I’m a total convert to watercolor pencils having used them maybe only twice before in my cardmaking! The great thing about these pencils is that YOU CAN STAMP WITH THEM! Great for no line watercoloring. Simple rub them over your stamp in a stamp positioner, spritz a couple of times with water, then stamp onto watercolor cardstock. I’m using the giant floral from Altenew’s Courageous You stamp set. You can see in the picture below how it looks when stamped using this technique.

I’m using cold press watercolor cardstock. I simply colored in the ‘nooks and crannies’ with the watercolor pencil, and then pull it out using a waterbrush. When it dries, I add more pencil in the. same way, building up the layers.

When I finished, I decided to add some drama by outlining the images with a black alcohol marker and coloring in the background. This gives the illusion of watercoloring on dark cardstock! I also masked off the image using the stamp, and splattered it with antique gold Altenew spray.

I fussy cut out one side of the flowers and decided to create a large scale card – 5 x 7″. I stamped the sentiment from the set in Obsidian Pigment ink onto a white 5 x 7 panel and then popped the flowers on the top using foam tape. A few gold confetti sequins finished the card!
