Hi Everyone, I am back with another card I’ve created for my Altenew Educator Certification – this time for the Let It Shine class! I love glitz and shine on my cards so this is already one of my favorite classes!

Of course my favorite all time technique for card making is heat embossing. I have been doing it for a long time but the class is great for a reminder on those surface prep essentials. Of course as it’s Carissa’s class, I had to go with a gold powder as well!

To create my card, I first did my heat embossing. I used a panel of Gina K Tranquil Teal cut to 4.25″ x 5″. I then prepped the panel with a powder tool to avoid embossing powder sticking where I don’t want it and to remove that static cling. I used my MISTI to stamp the main image from the Altenew Statement Flowers twice onto the panel, rotating the stamp (being sure to clean it in between) and then heat embossed in gold embossing powder.

I stamped it again once more onto more teal cardstock in embossing ink, leaving the stamp in the MISTI. I didn’t heat emboss it this time (that will come later).

I used my copic markers to color in the main flower and a trio of leaves. Alcohol markers can be damaged by heat embossing, which is why I didn’t heat emboss at this point. The embossing ink leaves a clear line to follow to color in the image (and is great for no line coloring on dark cardstock like this!) I actually used RV markers to color in the main flower but on the cardstock they appear to be shades of blue – isn’t that cool! I love that moody look. I used G markers for the leaves. I then placed it back into the MISTI, stamped in embossing ink again and heat embossed in gold.

I fussy cut out the flower and leaves and popped them onto my panel with foam squares. I also added some G copic on some of the leaves on the main panel to balance the image and create a diagonal (great tip from the class). To add depth, I ink blended around the edges with Altenew Desert Night ink. The embossing resists the ink and you get gorgeous contrast! I also added a little water splatter for interest.

To finish I stamped the sentiment from the stamp set in Altenew Obsidian ink, trimmed it out and popped it on foam strips along with some Nuvo Drops in Bottle Green in the flower centre and around the image to tie in with those green leaves and add some more shine!

I’ve linked to the class and the supplies I used below. I hope you have a chance to do some heat embossing this week – it really is one of the best techniques out there for adding shine!
