It’s a new decade, a new year, a new month, which means it is time for a new Altenew Build-A-Flower, and you’re going to love it (although I’m sure you love all of them!) I’m beyond thrilled to be guesting with Altenew for the Build-A-Flower Triumph Tulip Blog Hop! Hopefully you landed here from Lilith’s blog. You can find all of the stops on the hop at the end of this post, along prize details! And you can always pop back to Altenew’s Card or Scrapbook stops if you get lost along the way.

I have three cards to share with you today and a video showing how I made my first one. You can head on over to my YouTube channel or check it out here. The supplies I used are listed at the end of the post.

See how I created my die cut window card here.

Here’s a close up look at the BAF Triumph Tulip stamp and die set. It is also available with an ink bundle set providing you with a 5% discount! Did you know that there is a monthly subscription plan for the Build-A-Flower sets? When signed up, you are guaranteed a spot in Altenew’s monthly BAF releases and will receive a set each month – at a specially discounted price! ($35.00 →$29.99)

For my first card (shown in the how-to video), I’m featuring a technique that makes use of the co-ordinating dies and cuts a window in the card base through which to stamp the Tulip image, so that it peaks through to the front. I then overlaid a separate die cut tulip image over the window to create a fun layer of dimension over the window.

Before overlaying the die cut, I stamped some of the leaves and the extra layered bud from the stamp set using inks from the Sugarplums set (Pale Mauve, edged in Grape Agate). For my main tulips I’m using three of the Fall Harvest set (Butternut, Pumpkin Pie and Yellow Ochre). For those of you who follow my cards, you probably know how much I love heat embossing. Layered stamp sets are perfect for adding a pop of co-ordinating heat embossing, just replace an ink with embossing ink and powder! I used Altenew Copper Crisp Embossing Powder for the fourth layer on my tulips.

My sentiments are from the Altenew Reason to Smile set, stamped in black ink. I created a co-ordinating colored strip of cardstock by swiping Pale Mauve over white cardstock before stamping my sentiment. I also added a few Nuvo Drops in Dirty Bronze to co-ordinate my embellishment with the embossing powder.

For my second card, I stamped out several of the large and small tulips from the set using the Sugarplums inks. I die cut them all out and arranged them on a panel of white cardstock, with some hanging off the edges, being sure to leave space for my sentiment.

This is a fun way to create a dimensional background card. Before adhering the die cuts, I stamped my sentiment in black ink in the saved space. I then added foam tape to the backs of all of my die cuts and adhered them to the card panel, snipping off the overhanging edges.

To finish, I added a few Nuvo Vintage Drops in Dusty Rose and Earl Gray, then popped onto a Neenah Solar White 110lb card base.

For my final card I arranged more of a traditional bouquet using the tulips, leaves and bud in the stamp set. I co-ordinated the Sugarplums set of inks for the leaves, and Tranquility set of inks for the buds and tulips. For something a little different, I’m using my all time favorite Altenew cardstock – Spicy Yoghurt – it gives a lovely speckled rustic background but is light enough to avoid distortion of ink colors.

I stamped two of the smaller tulip and one of the largest, the bud and leaves, and two of the largest leaf, then die cut them all out. I arranged them onto the Spicy Yoghurt cardstock panel without adhering, then stamped some of the leaves directly onto the panel itself. I used the same ‘edging’ technique as showing in my video, to add dimension to the stamped images. I then adhered my die cuts with glue and liquid adhesive.

Once again the sentiment was stamped in black ink directly onto the panel and I added some Nuvo Vintage Drops in Dusty Rose.
