Welcome to my stop on the Altenew December 2019 Ink Release Blog Hop! You should have arrived here from the wonderful Maryam’s blog. If you get lost along the way, the full list is at the end of this post. Be sure to stay tuned to to see the prizes up for grabs as well!

Altenew has come out with three GORGEOUS ink bundles as part of this release – 12 inks in total. I love the way these inks go together, and don’t forget that you can use inks for much more than stamping. I have a few examples in my cards today, but first here’s a look at the inks, which come in Oval, Mini Cubes, and Re-Inkers. Sugarplums are beautiful pink purple inks with grey tones, Tranquility are dreamy blue-gray shades, and Fall Harvest are perfect warm autumnal tones.

Ombre Ink Stamping

For my first card, I used the Tranquility inks in Misty Morning and Nimbus to do some ombre stamping. I used the Frosted Garden stamps, inked first in Misty Morning all over, then edged with Nimbus, using a mini ink dauber to blend them slightly on the stamp to create an ombre look. I used a MISTI to double stamp and get a nicer blend. I used Dark Night to add the flower centres.

After stamping, I ran my card panel through my die-cutting machine with the Dotted Scales Debossing Cover die then mounted it onto a white notecard. I die cut the Fancy Thanks die from gold mirror cardstock and navy craft foam, adhered together and popped it into the centre.

I ran the Misty Morning ink pad directly over a scrap of white cardstock to create a co-ordinating sentiment strip, then heat embossed ‘sweet friend’ in white over the top and mounted on foam tape. As a finishing touch I scattered a few clear sequins.

Watercoloring with Inks

I used the Sugarplums set for my next card. Using a panel of handmade watercolor paper, I created stripes of color with a flat brush and the inks. This is super simple to do – just smush the ink pad directly onto a craft mat, add a little water, and then paint with your ink! I alternated each of the Sugarplums colors of Plum, Grape Agate, Amethyst and Pale Mauve. I love the sketchy look, so didn’t worry too much about making the lines super straight. I also added a few splatters for good measure.

To make the inks the star, I decided to keep the foreground monochromatic. I stamped the large flower from the Engraved Flowers in black ink and die cut it out with the coordinating die. I also die cut one of the Crystal Frames from black cardstock, and mounted them onto the watercolor panel. I used two layers of foam tape on the flower and sandwiched the frame between them to give it a floating look.

The sentiment is from Engraved Flowers and was heat embossed in white on black cardstock, then popped onto the centre. I trimmed down the panel, mounted onto a white note card, and added some black sequins to co-ordinate.

Ink Blended watercolor Emboss Resist

I used the Sugarplums set on the next card as well (can you guess my favorite colors in this release!?!). I first heat embossed one of the images from the Pen Sketched Flowers in white onto white Bristol cardstock. I then smushed the inks on my mat as before, but this time, used them with a waterbrush to watercolor the image.

To add definition I used the Plum to add dark contrast in the corners. When dry, I used a light hand with an ink dauber to blend out the the color over the edges of the heat embossing and fade out to create a sort of halo around the image. I added a few splatters of ink and water to add a little interest and texture.

When dry, I stamped the sentiment from the set in black ink directly onto the panel. Before mounting, I trimmed it down, and then added the Pale Mauve ink directly to the edges of an A2 white card panel before mounting my watercolor piece on top to create a subtle co-ordinating border. I added more black sequins to tie in with the sentiment and some Nuvo Dream Drops in Fairy Wings which perfectly matched!

Layered Stamping

For my final card, I went back to basics for some traditional layered stamping, because the four set shades of inks are perfect for layered stamp sets. When I saw the Fall Harvest ink set, I just immediately thought of the Sunflower Daisy stamp set. I stamped the petals using the inks, and supplemented with browns in the centre, then die cut the images out with the co-ordinating dies.

On my base panel, I stamped the leaves, and decided to use the Sugarplums inks for a little unusual color combo which I think works perfectly together don’t you!? I also stamped the You Inspire Me stamp from the Crafty Greetings stamp set in black and added a few black splatters before mounting the Sunflower Daisy on foam tape over the leaves. I added a few clear sequins and added to a notecard.
