Hi Everyone!

Welcome to my stop on the Altenew Build-A-Flower: Bellflower Release Blog Hop! I’m so excited to be joining in with the hop today and can’t wait to show you the FOUR cards I’ve created with this gorgeous floral set (I couldn’t stop stamping!). You should have arrived here from Ashlea’s blog. If you get lost along the way, you can head to the Altenew Blog.

I have also added all of the stops at the end of this post, as well links to the products themselves. Stay tuned for details of PRIZES you can be in with a chance to win by hopping along with us!

The cards I created today showcase the versatility of the new Build-A-Flower: Bellflower. I created a video that gives you a closer look at one of them, and includes a few tips on using layering stamp sets and die-cutting them out with the co-ordinating dies.

Layering stamps can be daunting, but they give amazing depth and you can really play around with colors to get different effects. The layering guide included in the set makes it really straightforward. Check it out – these layers line up really easily.

The card I created in the video uses really bold colors to match the bold layers of the flowers. I stamped the layers using the Red Cosmos ink collection and the Green Fields ink collection. I went all in and also created a bold background with the same reds and a drop of yellow.

To add texture I added spatters of Ruby Red Metallic Shimmer Ink Spray and debossed the panel with the Dotted Scales Debossing Cover die. Before adding the die cut Bellflowers, I die cut the Fine Frames from Altenew Gold Mirror cardstock, to provide an anchor and contrast between the flower and the base. A simple heat embossed sentiment (using Altenew Sentiment Strips) was really all it needed, but as a finishing touch I love to add clear Nuvo drops to look like dew drops on flowers!

My second card uses the same layout of the Bellflower as my first card, but showcases the images in completely different colors, with deep to pale purples. For the leaves and stem I actually used grey ink, and added a subtle sparkle by heat embossing the main flower centre in silver.

I used my Altenew watercolors to create a light purple wash in the background on some hot press watercolor card stock, along with a few splatters for good measure. When dry, I used the Classy Stripes stencil with clear glitter paste to add some subtle textured stripes over the watercolor. I finished with another heat embossed sentiment (also in silver).

My next card shows how you can add pencil coloring to soften the layering of the images, as well as add shadows, highlights and more contrast. I stamped the images directly onto a panel of Spicy Yoghurt cardstock using paler pink and coral inks, and the same greens as before. I also stamped a sentiment from Better Together (one of my favorite Altenew sentiment sets) in black ink.

I then went in with my colored pencils (I used Polychromos) and lightly added coloring in the darker areas towards the base of the flowers, along the stems, and in the centres. I used two or three colors to blend out my shading.

I also added a few white gel pen touches as well as yellow pencil on the central stem. Keeping it simple, I added a few co-ordinating sequins for shine and mounted it onto a card base. I LOVE how this one turned out, it really looks like I drew these flowers myself when all I did was add a few pencil strokes to the Bellflower!

For my final card, I did something a bit crazy – I stamped and die cut the main bloom three times (just the petals) using shades of grey and black.

For my background, I added clear glitter embossing paste using the Skylight stencil. When it dried, I mounted the three blooms on foam tape in a circular pattern. I pulled them together with a circular sentiment from the Many Thanks set, heat embossed in silver.

Whew! I hope my cards gave you some inspiration on how you can play with the Build-A-Flower: Bellflower.
