It’s a new month and it’s a new hop!!! An Altenew Build-A-Flower hop to be precise – and this month, it’s the Coneflower! Stay tuned for all the blog hop details including Altenew’s awesome as always giveaway! You should have arrived here from Norine’s blog. If not, you can start over at Altenew’s blog to begin the hop.

For my card today I was inspired by some of the graphics of the example Coneflowers. I decided to keep similar shades and opted for the Red Cosmos set of inks. By stamping one flower slightly paler than the other, I could also give the illusion of perspective, with the paler flower looking like it’s in the background.

I stamped the outlines first using Jet Black ink. I then built up the color layers with the red Cosmos – for the paler flower I used Frosty Pink and Ruby Red. For the darker flower, I also added in a layer of Grapevine. The leaves were stamped using the new Natures Wonders inks in Misty Moor and Sea Forest. The flower centres are Warm Sunshine and Orange Cream.

I used the coordinating dies to die cut out the pieces. I wasn’t quite sure what to do with my background. My eyes landed on the recently released Red Sunset Slim Washi that I still had on my desk and thought it would be perfect for a modern backdrop. I trimmed down a panel of white cardstock to slightly smaller than an A2 size card, and then proceeded to overlay each strip of washi on the panel, leaving a small white gap. I did this twice with each piece, creating a repeating pattern, and using my craft mat to line up the strips.

I folded the ends of the washi around the back of the panel of cardstock, then adhered it to a white cardbase. I popped the Coneflower over the top with foam squares, and finished with the sentiment stamped in Obsidian Pigment ink directly onto the panel to finish! I love this washi background. It’s super simple but works perfectly don’t you think!
