Hi Everyone!

It is time for another Time Out Challenge and this week it is our Inspired By Words challenge.  And the quote this week is one of my most favorite of all time. It is from The Twits by Roald Dahl. I’ve always thought of this quote so much over the years, and it rings so true:

“If you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely”.

For this week’s challenge we are joined by the wonderful Toni.  Her cards are delightful – so thoughtful and detailed.  Be sure to go check out her blog for more inspiration.

For my card I wanted to use a cool new (to me) technique I’d seen Nichol Spohr use in this card – creating a faux stained glass look with dimensional adhesive.  In her card, Nichol used glossy accents but I decided to bring out my sunny colours of Nuvo Drops based on the inspiration quote.

First I created the background.  I taped a piece of Neenah Solar White 80lb card down to craft mat and taped the Radiating Rays stencil over the top.  I then blended Distress Oxide in Fossilized Amber and a little Spiced Marmalade towards the centre.   I spritzed it with gold shimmer spray (Heidi Swapp Shine Spray).  I then let it dry and die cut it with a Stitched Rectangle die.  I adhered it with double sided tape to a Neenah Solar White 110lb card base using fun foam for dimension.

For the stained glass heart, I diecut a heart from white fun foam and gold matte foil cardstock by Altenew. I adhered the two pieces together using Ranger Multi Medium Matte liquid adhesive and then adhered them to the stenciled panel in the centre so it looks like the ‘sunbeams’ are shining out of the heart.

I then used the Nuvo Drops in English Mustard, Ripened Pumpkin, Dandelion Yellow, Gloss White, Sugared Almond, Buttermilk and Golden Sunset. I dropped them into each triangle of the heart (in the centre of the piece) and then pulled them out using a craft pick.  Nuvo drops can tend to stay in the place they are dropped rather than spreading out like Glossy Accents, so the pick made sure they reached out. When they were dry there were some slight bumps, but I think it made them look more like stained glass which has imperfections.   I also noticed that the gold card piece had the odd smudge, so I diecut it again and adhered over the top 🙂

To finish, I added a sentiment from The Ton’s Pragmatic Wreaths (and inside it says ‘just sayin’) in Versafine Onyx Black. I kept it simple as there was so much going on the rest of the card.

I won’t lie, the stained glass effect is a little time consuming (and I think I held my breath a lot) but it’s really relaxing and you can achieve some stunning looks. I’ll be sure to do it again – I really hope to pick up some of the Nuvo Jewel Drops and create a translucent one.

Hope you enjoyed! Be sure to pop on over to Time Out and take part.
