Hi Everyone

It’s a new month, and you know what that means! It’s time for another Happy Little Stampers Watercolor challenge.  This month it is Anything Goes with the optional twist of Blooms.  There is $20 up for grabs for the winner of our challenge.

For my card, I got out my Mijello Mission Gold watercolors.  I love these paints, they’re so bright and vibrant, but you can achieve soft washes of color if you use lots more water.  They blend beautifully. I took some Strathmore 500 watercolor paper and created a soft blended wash with some pinks and purples, and a hint of blue.  The trick to this is to ensure the paper (which i taped down with masking tape to a hard board) is nice and wet (but not puddling).  I used a large flat brush to add clean, clear water all over it.  I then added stripes of color and let it blend down, gently tipping the board. As that flows down I added another stripe in a darker color at the top and do the same.  With a little luck (and some encouragement from your water brush if needed) you will get a beautiful soft blend.

I let it dry naturally and then diecut a panel with a Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangle and adhered it with double sided tape to a Neenah Solar White cardbase.

Using my watercolors I then took a scrap of the Strathmore and created an ombre wash using a bright turquoise.  When it was dry I diecut it with a Hugs die by My Favorite Things.  I also diecut some fun foam with the same Hugs die and adhered it to the ombre piece with Ranger Multi Medium Matte liquid adhesive.   I adhered it to the card panel.

For the blooms, I used my MISTI to stamp several of the Peonies and leaves from The Ton’s Wild Peonies, using Versafine Onyx Black Ink. I then added water and dropped pinks and some purples into the blooms, and a variety of greens into the leaves.  When dry, I spritzed them with gold shimmer spray for some added sparkle. I used my Scan n Cut to cut them out (LOVE it – no more fussy cutting!)  I then adhered them using foam tape and glue runner around the Hugs sentiment.

To finish I coated the Hugs in Nuvo Glitter drops in White Blizzard (so sparkly and picks up the color of the underlying watercolor) and scattered some sequins by Pretty Pink Posh from an older mix.
Hope you enjoyed! We can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Jenny
