Hi Everyone!

It’s that time again – we’re back with another Happy Little Stampers watercolor challenge.  This month Anything Goes, but there is the optional twist of using red in your card.  The winner of the challenge will get $20 to spend in the Happy Little Stampers shop.  Also joining us as Guest Designer this week is Helen.  Her cards are always so pretty, and this one is no exception. Be sure to go check out her blog and leave her some love!

For my card this week, I’m using HLS’ Whimsical Friends stamp set.  It’s really cute and with lots of images in differing sizes.  I decided to stamp the elephant and one of the larger birds as if the bird was standing on the elephant for more fun!  As I knew I would be watercoloring the card I used Canson XL watercolor cardstock and die cut it using a smaller rectangle from Lil’ Inkers Silly Stitched set.  I thought the wonky outside stitched look would add to the fun feel of the card.  I stamped the images using my mini MISTI to get them lined up using Ranger Archival black ink (it’s waterproof).

I then blended Distress ink in Wilted Violet around the edges.  I blended a little Distress ink in Blue Print Sketch on the very edges to add a little dimension.  I then flicked water onto the ink and lifted it off after about 30 seconds with a paper towel to get the splattered look.

I watercolored the bird and the elephant using Peerless watercolors.  After painting with Daniel Smith for so long I hadn’t realised how quickly these dry!  I ended up doing about two or three layers on the elephant to get a little shading.  For the sentiment I used my vintage DYMO label maker and created the Hi Friend sentiment (geddit!?!) which I adhered straight onto the card panel.   I finished it by adhering some Pretty Pink Posh sequins with Ranger Multi Medium Matte.  I also used a Sakura black glaze gel pen to add some zig zags to the elephant’s blanket, and some eyelashes on the elephant and the bird.  I adhered the whole piece to a 4 bar Simon Says Stamp card base using double sided tape.

That’s it for this week – I hope you enjoyed the card.  Something a little bit more fun for me I think!
