Hi Everyone!

I’m excited to be showcasing another fabulous Power Poppy digi stamp and this one is very special to my heart – Pansies!  They were one of my mum’s favourite flowers and so I am thrilled that Marcella at PP is releasing a beautiful image for us to colour and create with Pansies as the star attraction.

I’ve got a few projects up my sleeve with these beauties but first I wanted to try something a little different – watercolouring the background around the image in bright colours and then greyscale painting for the poppies.

I used Mijello Mission Gold watercolors and Arches Cold Press watercolour paper (the image was printed using a Brother laser printer onto the watercolour paper).  I created a wash with clean clear water around the image and then dropped in purples, blues and pinks.  I did this a couple of times and also lifted the colour using a dryer brush and a paper towel to create the splotchy cloudy effect.

Once that was dry, I used the black paint in the set to create a variety of grey scale colours on my palette.  I created a very pale wash of grey over the whole image first and let it dry.  I then moved to layer darker and darker paints over the top to create the shading.   For the centres i used very concentrated dark paint to create flicks. I use Silver brushes as they have such a great fine tip to be able to do thin flicks.

To finish the card, I die cut the image with a rectangle die and popped it up on a foam sheet and white Neenah card base using double sided tape. I printed out the digi sentiment (there are two in the set) and foiled it in white using my Minc foil applicator (great for digis).  I then did a light wash of grey over the top – the foil resists the paint and let it dry.  I then cut it out and adhered it with foam tape.   I then sprinkled some 4mm and 8mm Pretty Pink Posh sequins for a little sparkle.
For my next card I did something that is easy if you don’t like watercolouring so much ;).   I printed the image out about twice as big and foiled the whole image using my Minc and rose gold foil.

I then diecut it using Spellbinders Rectangle die and Winnie and Walter’s Hugs die.  I also die cut the hugs from white fun foam.  I adhered the main piece to a white card base using double sided tape (ensuring the entire gap where the Hugs was cut from had double sided tape behind it).  I added the fun foam hugs on top and place the little pieces between the letters inside.

With the diecut hugs I created a blue Ombre wash with the Mission Gold watercolours (the foil resists) and left it to dry. Once dry I adhered it on top of the fun foam with liquid adhesive.  I scattered more Sparkling Clear Pretty Pink Posh sequins to finish.
Make sure you go check out the Power Poppy site for more inspiration, I’ll be back soon with another way of using this digi!
