Morning all!!
The weather has turned chilly and Mike Woods said on the news today there will be the first ice this coming weekend – in the low 20s F (negative celsius) overnight – nooooo!  We have had glorious autumnal sunshine the last few days so hopefully it still stays bright.
Today is officially my Baby C due date. I had my 40 weeks check up yesterday and there is no sign of any impending activity so I was sent to go for a walk, up and down stairs,  try Raspberry Leaf tea and ‘crawl around’. Sigh.  Did a couple of miles walking but so far nada.  Countdown to induction begins 🙁
Yesterday was also my husband’s birthday (so I’m actually glad they’re not sharing it).  I made his card earlier this week based on the Retro Sketches latest challenge (although I did flip it vertically).   I couldn’t post it until today as he checks my blog bless him.
I am totally loving The Ton’s Sketchy Menagerie stamp set. My husband has quite the collection of animal skulls he picked up on various hikes (no I’m not kidding) including a huge bison skull that he hauled halfway across New Mexico, so I couldn’t resist the image.  I also used a wood slice from a Studio Calico kit as the ‘mat’.
Card Recipe:
  1. Create a side folding card base from 110lb Neenah Solar White (8.5″ x 5.5″ scored at 4.25″)
  2. Cut a piece of Recollections Midnight Magic 6×6 paper stack (available from Michaels at the moment – apologies I am unable to link to it) 4.5″ x 3.75″ and adhere to front of card base with tape runner.
  3. Choose two other complementary papers and black card stock and trim into fishtails of varying widths and lengths.
  4. Staple fish tails together using the Tim Holtz tiny attacher with overlapping staples at top.  Add 3M foam tape to back of piece and adhere to card base.
  5. Stamp skull from The Ton Sketchy Menagerie in Versamark ink onto vellum (prep surface with powder tool first).  Apply white embossing powder (I used Hero Arts) and use a dry paintbrush to remove any embossing powder that has stuck to the horns. Then apply gold embossing powder (I used Ranger Super Fine Gold) to the horns.  Heat set.
  6. Fussy cut out the skull and adhere to a wood slice using strategically placed Ranger Multi Medium Matte. As mentioned, mine are from an old Studio Calico kit but I’m sure something similar can be found on Amazon or a scrapbook store!   WARNING: I tried embossing directly onto the wood slice first but it became a borderline fireball!!! Do not recommend.
  7. Adhere wood slice with Ranger Multi Medium Matte to stack of fishtails.
  8. Emboss, trim out and adhere sentiment in same way using white embossing powder.
  9. For the frame I die cut the small frame from Mama Elephant’s ‘Polaroid Fun’ four times from black cardstock and once from patterned paper in the set.  I adhered them together using the Sakura Quickie Gluepen and used Ranger Multi Medium Matte to adhere to wood piece around skull.
  10. I then finished with My Mind’s Eye Charmed enamel dots in gold glitter (have linked to similar  from Simple Stories in the supplies section below).

Hope you like the card – it went down well with my husband! (I’m loving all the skull imagery for Halloween that is around at the moment – works for him all year round!!)   Link to Retro Sketch game is below.

Until next time!

Jenny x
